Green Propolis
green propolis is produced by cutting a long and thin opening at the bottom of superhives wall (about 40x3cm). Africanized bees are very active and will focus on filling these big holes with green propolis based on a resin collected on wild rosemary's bud (Baccharis dracunculifolia), which is endemic in several regions of Brazil.
Green propolis has the appearance of small blocks, rigid and breaking pieces of a few cm. It has a powerful, balsamic spicy flavor and taste and typical green color.
mainly flavonoids and other phenolic compounds among which artepillin-C (>5,5% by HPLC) and baccharin are caracteristically predominant, then are found pinocembrin, pinobanksin, kaempherol, chrysin, galangin and coumaric acid.
Japanese clinical studies have shown the anticancerigenous properties of Artepillin-C and Baccharin.
